The Big Give One World Week is all about giving back to the community. In small groups, we created week-long schedules with various community service activities. We named our group the Nifty Thriftys. We liked that name because we were given a small amount of money to use toward funding our community service activities, so we had to be thrifty with our spending. We decided to do a few different things to help our community. The first one was writing letters and making bracelets to send out to the troops fighting to keep our country safe. We spent a few days making bracelets and writing the letters, and then with the rest of our time, we did our second community service activity- making sock monkeys to donate to a school for disabled children, which another Big Give group had already been working with throughout the week. We went to the store to buy the supplies we needed to create and complete all these crafts, and we had just enough money at the end to purchase the appropriate size box and postage stamps to send our letters and bracelets.

Here was our schedule:

Friday- Planning our week!

Monday- 9am-3pm We wrote letters and wove bracelets for the troops. On that day we made about twenty of each.

Tuesday- 9am-3pm We started creating sock monkeys. We completed about ten.

Wednesday- 9am-12pm We continued creating sock monkeys. 12pm-2pm We put together the first pages of our scrapbook, which documented our week's progress. 2pm-3pm We continued making more bracelets.

Thursday- 9am-12pm We continued making bracelets and writing letters. We ended with about forty-two of each. 12pm-3pm We created more pages of our scrapbook.

Friday- 9am We delivered the letters with the attached bracelets to the post office, addressed to the A Million Thanks organization. We also boxed up the sock monkeys and gave them to the other Big Give group to take with them to the school for disabled children. 9am-12pm We created this digital page, and continued working on our scrapbook. 12pm-3pm We presented to the class what we had completed throughout the week, and hoped to be voted the winners of which group made the biggest impact!

Dear One World Week Sponsors,

Thank you SO much for donating your money to our community service team. We made such a big impact on our community; we created friendship bracelets and attached them to letters we wrote to send to the troops fighting to keep our country safe, and we also made sock monkeys to donate to a school for disabled children. The money you donated definitely went to good use, and you should feel good about having sponsored us. We spent the money very wisely, careful not to waste it. We bought string for the bracelets, as well as buttons, socks, and stuffing for the sock monkeys. We worked very hard this week to make a big difference in our community, and we just wanted to say thank you so very much for donating the money.

Sincerely,

The Nifty Thriftys
