bienvenidos a mi portafolio digital

Libros, callados libros de las estanterías,
vivos en su silencio, ardientes en su calma;
libros, los que consuelan, terciopelos del alma,
y que siendo tan tristes nos hacen la alegría.

- de "Mis Libros" por Gabriela Mistral

English translation
Books, silent books in the bookcases,
alive in their silence, ardent in their calmness;
books, those that console us, velvets of the soul,
and being so sad they create our happiness.

- from “Mis libros” by Gabriela Mistral

¿quién es Srta. marisol?

¡Hola! Me llamo Srta. Marisol y este es mi portafolio digital. Yo soy maestra de español (lenguaje y cultura) en High Tech High Chula Vista.
Just in case you didn't get all of that... Hello and welcome to my digital portfolio. My name is Marisol Franco and I teach Spanish (Language and Culture) at High Tech High Chula Vista. This is my 8th year teaching - my 5th year at HTHCV. I am originally from Orange County, CA, having moved to San Diego in 2008. I graduated from UC Irvine in 2004 with a Bachelor's degree in Spanish and a minor in Educational Studies, obtaining my Master's degree in Elementary and Secondary Education the following year at UCI as well.

Special interests/hobbies:
1) Running - Half marathons are my distance of choice :).
2) Reading - Contemporary Latin American literature is what I most enjoy (late 20th century - present), but I will not say "no" to an interesting read of any kind.
3) Writing - Sadly, I have not been doing this as much as I would like. The collection of short stories that I began in college has been stored away for quite some time now.
4) ICE CREAM! - Yes... ask any of my students and they will tell you that I do not hide this passion. I am a self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur. The best ice cream I have had is in a small shop in Mascota, Jalisco, México (my mom's hometown).
